Pic of the day: Golden Arches light up the way.
And, my site being so insignificant that it's been booted out of
AltaVista, there is little chance that their full time lawyers will
find out that I am taking their logo in vain, much less bother about
it. (Especially, I hope, since I like McDonalds.) (I also like the
letter M, and the letters M&M, which I may hunt for another day.
Yumm.)
Been sick today. My stomach was like a wild beast and I could hardly
stand and walk. Slept a bit, answered a few phones from the office,
played Daggerfall, listened to the new CD from Solid Base.
I'll get no pay for this (reasonably enough), unless I manage to trade in a
vacation day. Or I may try to work a few saturdays. I doubt I will.
I do not love my job. Not at all. I do not even like it, though it is
easy enough. But I work for the government, which should have been
dramatically downsized for the benefit of the citizens.
Ironically I may be assisting in this, though not in a rational manner.
Rather, haphazard cuts in budgets lead to random empty cubicles. If I can
help make the remaining workers more productive through use of computer
systems, chances are that some of those vacant places will never be filled.
Wish I had stocked up on my "sick food" like yoghurt, milk and soda. Those
are always nice to have when I'm trying to rehydrate. Herbal teas and
other variants of cooked water generally taste disgusting, not least with
the water here. It's certainly not like the mountain streams back home,
where you could taste the season outside and the wind and the stone. Ack.
Civilization is nice - I certainly prefer the homogenous flour-meat mixture
of McDonalds to my childhood's Sunday meals consisting of recognizable
former friends of mine from the herd - but there are compromises.
Aren't there always?
PS: AOL aquires Netscape. Wall Street is amazed.
