Plastic carrying bags w/ garbage

Pic of the day: 3 full carrying bags with floppies and CDs so far, starting on the fourth.

Killing more games

Catz II: Electronic kittens running around on your screen. So cute! The one reason I didn't install it last time I tried was that it only runs on Windows 95. When I tried on WinME, or was it XP, it said "You don't have Windows 95" and terminated. I'm keeping the CD and the install code because I am sure it must be possible to fool it with some kind of compatibility mode or box or emulator. On the other hand, I am not playing my Nintendog anymore. (Then again, I got Animal Crossing today! WheeeeeeeeEEEE!) Eh. Anyway, I just installed it now. Opened "properties" on the setup program on the CD, changed it to run in Win95 modus. Because kittens are cute! And you know what? It still runs, at least for a while until it crashes. And in that time, the kittens careen around like they're on superspeed, because my computer is several times as fast as they were made for, and nobody thought of this when they coded the game. Tee hee.

AD&D Forgotten Realms: Dungeon Hack: I kinda liked how this game never pretended to be anything else than a dungeon hack (and slash). It generated new but similar dungeons every time, with enough food and monsters of a suitable difficulty. You saved your character after each dungeon hack, with whatever uber loot he had acquired since then. Or was it a whole party? I have forgotten now. Forgotten realms indeed. With DAoC catacombs looking more realistic than your average home video, I doubt I shall miss it even for five seconds. Or one. (Besides, the floppy, or CD perhaps, was missing.)

Voyages of Discovery: Another inferior Colonization clone. Kinda cute graphics. Still, not missed for a moment.

Constructor: I had pretty high expectations for this strategy game. You build various buildings and rent out housing to the somewhat weird inhabitants. It has traits from Sim City, The Sims (except it was before The Sims) and Pizza Tycoon. Yes, the mafia is heavily involved. I did not like that part. The game grew frustrating over time. But it was pretty exciting at the start. It is totally past due date now, of course.

Dogz: Superseded by Dogz II.(And Nintendogs.)

Catz: Superseded by Catz II.

Sim Tower: Another of the infamous Sim attempts. I must have been one of the very few people who liked this even before 9/11. I did, though. It is long in the tooth now, as they say in English, showing its age. Still, since I actively like it, I'll keep the CD and pretend that I will ever play it again, at least until next time I move or otherwise need more space.

Airlines: A business simulator. Not too bad, since graphics are not a big part of the gameplay. The graphics were unimpressive, the gameplay simplistic, but then again so was I; I don't know all that much about airlines. There are airlines in Transport Tycoon Deluxe though, which I am more likely to crack open if I ever feel the need again.

D-Day is a war game. It takes a lot for a war game to win the sympathy of a pacifist. This one failed miserably. I guess you need to have a keen interest in WW2 to enjoy it. But if I had any more interest in WW2, Jesus himself would have a hard time keeping me from going out and killing Germans. After all, it is not as if Hitler just happened; he was elected with a solid vote of confidence by the German people. They deserved what happened to them and so much more. Next time they start a war let's castrate every single male German, including the babies. Yeah. And teach the women to speak a civilized language. OK, you probably see why I'm not playing D-Day.

Patriot: The battle for Kuwait. The game Bush Jr should have played instead of using his ill-gotten powers to play it out in real life. Yeah. Worthless to me though.

Might and Magic: DarkSide of Xeen. See comments about Clouds of Xeen, only more so. New World computing really know how to make good- looking games. I think it was one of these that had the famous temple with the plaque "You pay, we pray". Still, not enough to make me keep it.

OK, it's 2 AM again. I told you I got Animal Crossing for the DS, right? Also played Sims2, the Paroday family. Also carried some stuff to new apartment.
