Fluorescent kitchen light

Pic of the day: Picture from the kitchen.

Im in ur kitchen...

turnin off ur lites. This was the peculiar impression I got this mild December afternoon as I got home from work and found the kitchen dark. I always leave the fluorescent light on there. Fluorescents don't draw all that much power compared to the light they give, and they last quite long. In fact, the part that tends to break first is the one that "ignites" them when you turn them on. This one takes quite a bit of time already, another good argument (I think) for letting it just stay on. So when I came home and found the kitchen dark, I assumed it had finally drawn its last Watt.

And then, in the weak light from the hallway, I noticed that the light switch seemed to be in off mode. I flipped the switch, and behold: A few seconds later the lights came on. Someone had walked in, turned off the light, and walked out. The door was locked and I had carried the key in my pocket all day.

This left the logical conclusion that the landlord's family had been there. (The landlord himself is in Tromsų at the time, several hours with plane away.) Now, I suppose they have every reason to inspect the house, especially after what happened with another house someone in the family rented out. And it is no big disaster, it is not like I had my BDSM porn lying on the kitchen table. ^_^; In fact, I don't even have dirty socks there. But I wonder about turning off the light. Was it just to give me a hint that they had been there? It is I, after all, who pay the utility bill, so it can hardly have been an economic concern. Perhaps it was just a habit from years of living there.

(The phrase parodied at the beginning is "Im in ur base killin ur d00dz", a famous message from one gamer to another implying total and utter victory by surprise. It has given rise to a plethora of variants, many of them illustrated, especially with cats.) (Some of the texts are slightly raunchy.)
