Pic of the day: The unusual suspect. Short: Willful cellphoneOn the day my future changed to a parallel timeline, late in January 2006, one of the really small things that happened was that the clear plastic cover on my Pocket PC broke. At the time this was just a minor inconvenience which drowned in the chaos of the sudden transition: An hour later, I had no idea where I would be living next week. I soon got used to not having the cover. Last week, my phone started randomly calling the last incoming number. Perhaps the shape of my fake leather belt pouch has changed to poke at the call button. I discovered it a couple days later. It had evidently called the same number repeatedly over the course of two days (and possibly nights, the exact times were not recorded, nor the durations). I deleted the call history, and made a fake call to my own cell phone number to make sure this was the current number. Well, looking at my call history, I see that it has once again made a couple calls to the same number it called before. How it retrieved it without the call history is a mystery, if not a miracle. So I've reset the pocket PC. When I do this, it asks for the SIM code on boot-up, telling me that it can only make emergency calls without that. You know what? That sounds about right for me. It's not like I actually call anyone. It may not be every month I get an incoming call either (which makes sense - would you cann someone who never calls you?), but anyway it is able to receive those even without the code. That's the way I like it! Now I can only hope I wasn't doing anything spectacularly embarrassing during the the silent phone calls. I'll probably never know. |
