Pic of the day: Night outside, day inside?

Short: Reversed days

My day rhythm is not synchronized with the world. This happens in some people. Actually most humans have an internal 25-hour clock, as can be seen if they are left to live in caves for a while without seeing daylight. Or so I've read some years ago. It seemed reasonable to me. Most people get their internal clock synchronized with the world through daylight and everyday tasks that happen at the same time every day. But this does not work quite perfectly in some of us. For this reason, my day gradually moves with the clock.

I am now in the worst part of it, where I am wide awake all night. My internal clock wakes me around 23 (11PM) no matter how long I have slept befor that. Even if I manage to stay awake that long, I will start to feel wide awake by then, and it lasts till about 5. Then I begin to relax again, and by the time I ought to go to work I am having my best sleep. And because I cannot complete the sleep cycle either in the evening nor in the morning, it slows down so I have trouble moving on to a more practical time. But eventually it is going to flip over, and I will start showing up early in the morning for a while. Or at least that is how it has worked in the past.

I am beginning to get a head cold again, even though I recently recovered from one. I am also beginning on a cold sore. This is a typical (for me) effect of too little sleep. I don't really have insomnia, though, and I would rather avoid messing things up with chemicals. I sleep just fine, except right now it is at a time when I am not allowed to sleep.
