Pic of the day: She's always online, and so am I... (Konata from Lucky*Star.) Ordered wireless broadbandAt the workplace I am leaving, we have had an Internet access that is not shared with our top secret workplace stuff. It is used for looking up various things, for studies and some private use, and for the visiting customers (or clients, or whatever I should call them). In any case, I used it too. Not excessively, of course, but to play music from the Internet and receive mail and check on my friends in between work. Yes, unfortunately much of our work hours were wasted on working, even there. In any case, I am leaving. The new office does not have quite the same arrangement. I am now going all out and getting my own private Internet access at work. I have ordered a wireless broadband connection from ICE, a Nordic supplier. Telenor and Netcom both have wireless broadband for companies, and Telenor has one for private users... but it is hideously expensive in comparison and can only be used outside normal office hours, so it is the exact opposite of what I want. ICE, on the other hand, is cheap and has great coverage and good capacity. This will not in any way be connected to my employers' systems. Our security is very strict. And so is mine. I don't want the central admins reading about my friends' sexual dysfunctions and mental disorders. (Unsurprisingly I have a goodly number of disorderly friends online. This is a Chaos Node after all.) And while it is some time since last I saw any of my online friends without their clothes, you never know. Mostly it is for the music though. There won't be much time for surfing, barely even keeping up with my limited e-mail. But now that I can play at work all the music I have on my home machine, I am not planning to give up on it. And of course, I do it because I can. That is not the official reason, but I know myself well enough to admit that it is one reason. Twentyfive years ago, I imagined that this age would come. Now that it is here and I am still alive (still alive...), I do what I "must" because I can. ^^ |
