Pic of the day: It used to be routine for me to be surrounded by cute girls. Not anymore. (Screenshot from anime _Summer... pronounced "underbar Summer".)

Birthday@home

My workplace lets us each choose one day off in the Yule/New Years holidays, in addition to the public holidays where our office is closed (like most other non-emergency workplaces). Naturally I chose today, since it was my birthday. Who wants to go to work on their birthday? There is bound to be congratulations and stuff. Meh.

By then I had already been at home on Satuday, Sunday, Yule Day and Second Yule Day. At least on Saturday the shops were open. I don't think I bought anything then, since I remember knowing beforehand that the shops would be utterly packed with people desperate to shop for the extra long weekend. So it had been four days at home (except walking along the road a bit). I had not been lonely for a moment, and I had caught up with part of the journal backlog.

It seems however that I had forgotten how pretty women are. I felt like staying in the supermarket a while to just look at them, but people would probably be a bit creeped out. I probably would myself, if the roles were reversed. But even if not, it would not have been a good idea. Generally I support the "golden rule", to do to others what we would want others to do to us. But sometimes we can just do what they want without thinking about ourselves at all, if we know pretty well what it is. (I hope masochists don't follow the golden rule, for instance...)

In the afternoon I experimented with playing Sims2 on the monster computer but with the old, old video card. I tested it with more and more graphic options. Alhtough some were greyed out, those that were not worked amazingly well with such an old card. This just goes to show that Sims2 depends mostly on the main processor (CPU), and I will bear this in mind when buying a new machine soon. On that note, late at night the computer exploded. But this was probably not because of Sims2, for it was the power supply that went bust. But technically this happens tomorrow.

SuperWoman called and talked about her life, her boyfriend and their new apartment and gigantic debt, and who of her siblings and their spouses had come down with babies in the year that has passed. Quite a few, among them the Great Earth Mother. Oh well. I hope she is happy now. Happy birthdays to the people who actually give birth. They can need it.
