Hans was the oldest of the Olsen kids, although Leon went to college earlier. It was a reluctant Hans who left for tertiary education, as he would rather get started on his flower business right away. But the laws of this time does not allow businesses outside the home without a suitable degree. Back then, the Micropolitans did not have many friends from the neighboring villages like they have now, although his friend Orville Hopkins did join him in the huge dorm full of strangers. But mostly, the kids from Gravel Road stuck together, and Hans was among those who found the love of his life among his nearest neighbors: The cute girl from across the street.
Being an independent merchant in a small village is not easy: There were few customers and they did not have much money. The snapdragon business started well enough but soon tapered off: There is a rumor that too many snapdragons can cause addiction and a strange life-threatening boredom, so most families only bought one or two. Hans was close to giving up his dream when Jenna Ashby became a big hit with her exercise venue. Hans decided to try a music club, Dance Dance Resolution, and to locate it in Flatland (or Downtown as it was also called, being down in the lowlands rather than up in the hills). The club became a huge success among the downtownies, and Hans got his first top-level business. He has later started selling furniture from a parking lot, using his business contacts to help the locals buy their furniture slightly under market price.
