Sleepy portrait

Pic of the day: Just pretending!

No sleeping zone

I played DAoC all night, then went to work. Napped in my chair a few minutes at the end of the day, was really sleepy. Well, like, duh! I've got used to staying awake all night and only sleep during working hours. I also napped some on the bus home. That's just blanking out, no real dreams and such. Because dream sleep (REM sleep) makes all your muscles relax, and that would be dangerous, possibly even fatal while sitting like that.

I came home, had some food, and took a nap in bed. Now I dreamed. An intense, vivid dream about being a paladin and having new powers (such as being able to increase the running speed of others). I also dreamed that my youngest brother was there with me. I woke up and had been asleep only for 15 minutes, approximately as long as the dream seemed.

This has happened more and more often in later years, though it may be that I have always had this tendency to dream as soon as I fall asleep. Perhaps I only now sleep lightly enough to wake up and remember. But it is contrary to the textbooks. I should first sink down into deep sleep, then back up and only as I neared the end of my first 90 minute sleep cycle should I move into REM. Well, my brain does not respect the textbooks. Then again, I'm not exactly normal, am I?

So now I am about to play again. I wonder if I will play all night and go straight to work, and how long I can continue to do that before I collapse. Perhaps a day or two more.

Now playing romantic music by Chris de Burgh in hope of rescuing my NaNoWriMo novel...

P.S. next morning: I did not actually stay up all night. I got tired early and went to bed.
