Pic of the day: Back in the Paragon City, and redolent with power. Yeah! Yay DSL! ^^ (Screenshot from City of Heroes, featuring my character Moekoi the fire tanker, protector of innocents.) I'm baaack!Yesterday I phoned my ISP (Telenor) again, asking about the progress in fixing my DSL. It had been down for 14 days, as I politely informed them. I had called the 21st, 23d, and 29th. Once again they were unable to find out what was wrong: The line seemed to work fine, but they got no contact with the modem. I explained that I had already tried with a different modem and different cables. They promised I would get a SMS (mobil phone text message) within the next workday. Indeed, when I got out of bed just before 12:30 today, there was such a message. It said they had not found anything wrong with my line. I tried to log on, as I had also tried at 3AM, but this time it worked without a glitch, and has worked since. I assume they will pretend it was my fault all the time, and try to bill me for both the DSL line and the dial-up I used for those 14 days. I intend to see them in court, and will try to keep you updated. This could turn my journal into something slightly more exciting than it has been lately. ***For now, however, I am happily back to file sharing and online games. Which probably doesn't interest you all that much! Just in case, however, I should mention that Mythic Entertainment has announced a price hike in its online game Dark Age of Camelot to $14.95 per month. Yeah, that's a more subtle way of writing $15. On the bright side, they plan to implement partial server clustering, letting players from two or more servers wage realm wars together in a shared frontier, visiting other servers and sending tells to other servers in the cluster (names are extended with server name, for instance my paladin would be "Itland of Galahad"). Oh, and thanks to Kirk for pointing out that you can play Anarchy Online for free out 2005 by registering before January 15th. Not my type of game really, but you don't get a good MMORPG cheaper than that! ***Late at night I finished The Runes of the Earth. I hesitate to start reading another book now, because I want to savor the flavor of this one for a while. It will be some time before the next book in the series is available. I feel the urge to write fantasy fiction again. But my hand will limit that, so I'm not likely to get carried away. I also feel the urge to buy EverQuest II. Luckily I was home from work today. Tomorrow will be, uhm, fraught with temptation. Yeah. A veritable crescendo of coruscating temptations. Or something. Off we go. |
