Pic of the day: Beware! Geeks bearing gifts!

Yes, I finally bought a gift for Dan & Elke's wedding. A big one, too. They're pietists so nothing frivolous or useless. Not that I have missed a thing like this, ever. And it's not blushy stuff either. Just something that is rare but nominally useful. I feel pretty content about this one.

Actually the wedding was today but the reception for us second tier friends is tomorrow. I will be entirely surrounded by pious people. I guess I can't in good faith ask you to pray for me, either...

This will most assuredly go better than in my novelette "The wedding of the Wolf", in which one of the wedding guests attacks the bridegroom. Now this may be understandable at times, but in this case the attacker is a severely disturbed fundie who has been thinking long and hard about the Bride of the Lamb. Seeing as the bridegroom in question is not the Lamb, the main character decides to take action and save the bride...

It starts to be obvious why I write and write and never publish anything. :) My stories tend to hang out on the fringes of sanity. Not entirely autobiographic, I assure you.

...

Anyway, even though Hammy did actually come online at last, I had to excuse myself and lurch to bed, where I slept for ca 8 hours straight. And it works. No, my root canal tip thingie still hurts (I now have a sore on the back of the corresponding tooth) but I now feel a deep urge to contine writing on my fantasy novel "Angel of Light". Actually the title is pretty close to one that is used for a non-fantasy novel, so I will have to change it, but that's a worry for when it is finished. And I rarely finish things. Perhaps I'll call it "Angle of light" or something...

"Angel of Light" is a two-dimensional novel. Along one axis, it's a fantasy novel about a guy aquiring magical powers and becoming a Very Important Person. The usual stuff. Along the other axis, we see that this is all happening in his fantasy and a virtual reality. As the story progresses, the boundary blurs between reality, fantasy and sheer madness. I love this kind of stories, which is why I write them. If others would be bothered to write them, I would be content just to read them. :)

I guess I write fantasy for much the same reason that some people write diaries. They tell me they write them for themselves. But I don't put my fantasy novels on the Internet for all to read and then act surprised when someone happens to read them...

Though the temptation is there.

Music of the day: "Friday I'm in love" and "Just like Heaven", both by The Cure. Sorry about that.
