As a little girl, Shelly saw her mother die in the hurricane that destroyed their home city. As a teen she had problems with impulse control and was viewed by the other kids (and many adults) as a bit retarded. The only one who understood her was the neighbor boy Petter, and the two eventually hooked up. She did surprisingly well in college after Petter joined her there, but had problems relating to the harsh routines of ordinary work after she returned home. Shelly and Petter credit a djinn (genie) with their surprising transformation some years later. She is now married, a mother and holding a job in the entertainment industry, and seems very happy with her life.
