Laptop on table

Pic of the day: Who died and made this laptop king?

Thunderstruck

It was a rather uneventful day, until the lightning struck.

It didn't strike me, I'm happy to report. But it did take out my main computer, including my pathetic attempt at an entry. I was just whining anyway, so no big loss.

Luckily I am the proud owner of a cute and fairly new HP portable, which I have used mainly to play The Sims. It seems the little one has temporarily become my main machine. The display is crisp and bright, but the keyboard is harder on my hand and I don't get my speech recognition program to work. Then again this could be the lightning frying the microphone, which was attached at the time. It sure did something to the modem. I am probably not buying a new modem until the middle of the month, when the ADSL is expected. If that one works, there should not be need for a modem here ever again.

This portable, as you may guess, has a modem built in. It is currently downloading the latest patches to Dark Age of Camelot ... I expect there to be a lot of downloading during the next few days.

If the weather clears up, I intend to take the main machine to the city, to the shop where I bought it. Hopefully it's just the power supply unit that's fried, but I am reluctant to change it myself even so. I am not the screwdriver kind of computer guy. Well, actually I have a screwdriver, and has used it to set in a better graphics card in the computer. Replacing the power supply somehow seems more substantial, though.

Oh yes, the whining. My throat is catching something. But it still beats being struck by lightning, any day.
