Mushrooms

Pic of the day: It is said that the Vikings of old ate lightly poisonous red mushrooms (background) in order to get into berserker rage. These days, there is little need for those.

The fun that keeps on funning

I called Expert, the large electro chain where I had handed in my desktop PC four weeks ago. They did not know where it was ... their computer system was down! Try again on Thursday.

I called Jensen to hear why the USB network card was insisting the cable was not attached, when not only the cable was attached, but it was attached to the cable modem which was attached to the splitter which was attached to the phone line which worked quite nicely. In the process of studying this, we realized that there was already a built-in network card in the portable, and I did not need the USB Fast Ethernet Adapter at all. Incidentally, the message from this card was the same when I put the cable there instead.

I called Telenor's helpline, I checked their website, and finally I got hold of them on their IRC support. A tech called Espen decided that the Nokia "modem" (looks more like a hub to me) must be the problem, so promised to send a new. I predict already that this will not happen. Some days from now, I am going to contact them again and nobody will have any recollection of having ever heard of this before. Place your bets, gentlemen.

Is it the modem? Is it a cable? Is it some mysterious supernatural intervention again, just like when I tried to play EverQuest? Don't miss the next installment ...

On the bright side, I now am aware that my portable HP OmniBook XE3 is even better than I believed. Woot! Not that I know how to make use of that.
