Spring pine branches

Pic of the day: Oh, the pine!

Reality bytes

This was a fine day for me until the afternoon when I suddenly got diarrhea for no good reason. Well, I assume it has nothing to do with me living on scraps for the previous day or two, as the scraps were neither moldy nor stinking. ^_^

The aged landlord, however, is worse off than I. During his trip to France he fell and broke his skull. His daughter seems convinced that he will live, but I guess it is time to save up some coins for moving out of here, in case they decide to sell the house. And they are such nice people too.

On the bright side, I downloaded a remix of the victory theme from Master of Magic. Now I want to play MoM again! (The coolest strategy game ever made by men, albeit one of the buggiest too.) But I just started playing Morrowind again! That was because I watched Mahou Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto. For some obscure reason it makes me think of Morrowind, even though the graphics are very very different. Morrowind it kinda bleak and sinister, with a strong feel of alien world. In contrast, a slightly pastel version of modern Tokyo (only with magic) is the setting for Someday's Dreamers, as the English name is. (Mahou Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto actually means "Things that are important to a magic user", so I guess that might be the link ...)

The reason why I thought of Someday's Dreamers again was that an online friend asked me what anime fan fiction I would want to be written if I could choose. I replied that I would like to see one set in the Mahou Tsukai universe, preferably directly picking up where the series stops. I love that world, because it is like our world only with some magic. And it is a magic of the heart: Mages can not do everything, but they can do amazing things if they have talent and put their heart in it. They don't cast spells, they imagine what they want to happen and put their heart into it. That is a magic I can like!

I guess I should buy that anime when it comes to the shop here in Kristiansand. After all, we want them to make more anime like that. But it is probably a long wait, I only just recently heard rumors that it was being licensed in America. How and when it will be available in English for the European DVD zone is anyone's guess. But there actually are some DVDs in the Outland shop. I saw Chobits, for instance. Evidently that is a very popular series. Somehow I find that disturbing. Unless I am sorely mistaken, it is a series about a girl-shaped personal computer. Reminds me of the text on my Toshiba laptop: "A very personal computer". I think the laptop has a way to go yet. Of course, laptop computers would probably sell better if they were girl- shaped, too. I still remember the days when a reviewer described a "laptop" machine this way: "It is like having a secretary on your lap, only hotter and heavier." Science does make progress.

How did I manage to change the direction like that in one paragraph? Wow. Anyway, despite the progress of science, I still prefer touch typing to dictating to my computer. (This might change if the computer was girl-shaped, in which case I might be reluctant to touch-type on it. I cannot imagine any obvious places to type on a girl-shaped computer. This is probably a good thing; I think some of my friends could have imagined that easily.) So my hand still aches, although it is much better than last year, thank you.

In order to keep the hand from aching even more (and to start thinking on tomorrow's entry) I will end now. Also before I paint myself further into the corner surrounded by girl-shaped very personal computers. And it is almost full moon too, not that there really is night anymore. Long time readers will know how I react to the full moooooon...
