Two monitors in the dark

Pic of the day: City of Heroes on all channels!

Doubleview

On this day, I bought a second LCD monitor and a fourth USB Bluetooth device. I then returned to life the Windows ME machine, which had gathered dust for some months (a year or so, I think?). It has a GeForce 2 video card, which is just enough to run City of Heroes. I can now, theoretically, play four different accounts of CoH at the same time. EVILDOERS BEWARE!

Actually I'm not likely to go that far. There are very limited possibilities to automate CoH characters, and the game is fast-paced and varied. Even a "buffbot" needs to be controlled from time to time, which is why I now have 2 screens and 2 keyboards at my desk.

An old machine is kinda like a piece of personal history. I see I used the ME machine so recently that it has Civ3 Conquests installed. DIARY.HTML reads "Sunday 19 January 2003" though, so I guess that's when I bagged it. The title of that diary is "Shrouded Isles day 2". Can we guess that there is a connection? Shrouded Isles was the first expansion pack to Dark Age of Camelot and contained a new version of the graphics engine, that was able to use newer graphics cards to greatly improve performance ... Right. I see that I bought the GeForce 3 Ti card first, but it did not work in the old computer for some unknown reason. That explains the step up. (Also this computer, a Siemens/Fujitsu Scaleo, has a CD drive that doesn't work. Then again, the next one (my first XP), also a Scaleo, has a CD/DVD drive that doesn't work. The DVD writer on my current Scaleo still works, but you can now place your bets on how long it lasts ...

Looking in the folder "My documents" is also interesting, it contains various stuff that I haven't bothered to transfer. There is an essay strongly advocating widespread use of capital punishment, written November 21, 2002. It is not very different from another such I wrote a few days ago. I bet I didn't upload it that time either. And there are the original drafts for the Shadow of Cneko story, which I wrote for a while until my wrist gave out. Speaking of which, it does so now again.
