Pic of the day: The most rare of sights, a home office without Java. Ticket, tocketWe still intend to see Lord of the Rings II (Two Towers). But not just anywhere. My still beloved (and still just as unrequitedly so) has got this one thing fixed in her head, that she has to see it on the Collosseum, the huge movie dome. Or else not at all. Evidently she is not alone in this, for when we went to filmweb.no to look for tickets, we found that it was sold out all the way to Saturday. The first opening was on Sunday at 1PM. This was sort of disappointing to me, since my return ticket was with the 3PM train that day. The solution, decided SuperWoman, was for me to take a later train. (At the time I ordered my tickets, we had not known how long she would be off work.) Much as I appreciate staying with her as long as possible, it is also slightly disconcerting that her brain stem reaction was to shuffle my schedule rather than utilize one of the many other movie theaters. Utilizing excess capacity is second nature in me, an economist. On the down side, this illustrates how different we are, despite my enduring love for her. On the other hand, her readiness to meddle with my life shows how much she accepts my dedication to her. A dedication which is, frankly, an astounding overkill for a simple friendship such as ours in reality is. But hey, there is enough of me to give away; it's not like I am supposed to save myself emotionally for some later One True Love. Unless you have some really well founded recommendation. Not that I am in the mood for your recommendations now ... ^_^ Anyway, there was no option to change reservations on nsb.no, so we called NSB's service phone. The procedure was to order a new ticket and cancel the old. I hate reading my credit card number over the phone, it is so much less secure than using it online ... but you know, the things we do for love. Or a friendship so advanced that it's indistinguishable from love. This all took its sweet time. And when we tried to actually reserve some tickets to the movie (all this on her father's computer ... they have ISDN, while my portable only has connectors for ADSL and analog) we got to the point where we should pick our seats. "Your browser does not support Java." I was like huh? This was Internet Explorer 5.5. So I reported the problem to its owner, who agreed that there seemed to be quite a few sites which lacked central parts of their content, showing only a red x instead. He graciously allowed me to update the software. It soon became evident that this would take half an hour at best (more like two). So SuperWoman drove to town and bought the tickets by hand ... But at least we made it in time. It would have been so typical if the tickets were sold out while we were struggling with this. (Incidentally, I downloaded Opera w/Java, and not only did it work, now Java works in Explorer too. Everybody is happy. Curtains down.) |
