Pic of the day: Brighter times ... same character as yesterday, but a bit more advanced. Yes, I played DAoC. No, I won't write about it. You get a day off!

Lazy Sunday

I did not venture out in the snow at all today, but played Dark Age of Camelot almost all the time.

Well, I also took the time to eat and such everyday things. Oh, and bugging Telenor about the DSL that disconnects after 20 minutes of activity (rather than inactivity, which would have been OK by me). They actually confessed and sent me a mail describing how to set up my own connection in Windows ME without using their start CD. (In Windows XP this is trivial, and so the brochure tells how to do that. This is why I had no problems on my notebook. This is also why I have been playing DAoC on my notebook mostly even after the desktop PC returned.)

Oh, and I also ordered tickets to Oslo for the Christmas week. If all goes well (no truly bad things happening) I should be able to spend the week there with my best friend and her family. The family is really optional as far as I am concerned, though they are good people. Then again, so are my birth family, and you don't see me visiting them for the holidays. It takes something special, and I keep thinking every year that this is the last. I think so this time too, and someday it will be true. Kinda like people warning "The End Is Nigh!". Sooner or later it will be. At least for them.

NSB (the Norwegian state railroads) have improved their online ordering service, bit by bit. This time I could pay with my card directly rather than when I fetch the tickets. I also got the seat numbers. But I still have to fetch the tickets, because electronic tickets can only be used for 1-way trips. ?!? Given that I already have the seat numbers, this seems really pointless. Probably some obscure technical or administrative detail. Perhaps they forgot to mention return tickets in the specification when they ordered the software, believing that it goes without saying. With computers, nothing goes without saying. (This goes without saying if you're a programmer. ^_^)

Even so, it is astounding how far we have come just during my adult years. I pay my bills electronically, I order goods and services over the Internet, I meet people from all over the world. And now, thanks to the new cooperative server, I don't even need to kill them ...

But you must be fed up with DAoC. I am not, so I played all evening. Therefore, nothing more to tell. But it was a good day and I loved it.
