Pic of the day: Garden. This neighborhood has lots of beautiful gardens
and lawns. And the more beautiful the garden, the less likely you are
to see anybody there. Except possibly doing some gardening or mowing
the lawn again. So, since there isn't likely to be anybody sitting in
this garden with something cold to drink and lots of time to admire the
flowers and the green green grass, I might as well use it here. :)
The Gurgle girl is off to college. Over the last few weeks, I've sort of grown used to chatting with her. Oh well.
She disagreed with yesterday's entry, btw. I guess she may not be the
only one. Well, I certainly do not mean that smart people never sin.
Doing what is right does not follow from knowing what is right. (Though
Socrates seems to have thought it did.) But unless you are directly evil,
I think it helps. Or rather, I think it makes things harder when you
do not know the reason for morality. "Dad said so" just don't cut it
in the long run.
Nothing interesting happened today, because I was on sick leave. It's a good thing I live in Norway, and it's also a good thing that I've trained the two other staffers to solve practically any computer problem that may arise. Today they only called twice. Well, it was Staffman who called, as usual. He is certainly energetic. The most important thing that hasn't happened is SuperGirl calling. That is to say, she has not called. Either she has forgotten me (boo hoo) or she does not want to be friends anymore (boo hoo) or it was I who should call her (oops). In any case, it is my nightmare come true. Emotional turmoil. So I've played Daggerfall most of the day, when I wasn't in the bathroom. (Yes, I have a portable computer; but I still use paper for some things.) An unimportant thing was finishing Robert Silverberg's book The Alien Years. This was unimportant because the end of the book was pretty tame. Like he was broke and suddenly had to finish it. Well, not exactly like that, but a little like that. Then again, it was a hopeless project from the start. There simply was no possible good ending. I guess it could have been worse. For instance, there could have been even more cyberpunk than there was in the last part of the book. I sort of assumed from the blurb that the Entities had thrown the world back to the Middle Ages, or at least the Industrial Revolution. I certainly wasn't prepared for lots of cyberpunk and androids. I'm not saying I could have done it better, though. And I'm not the greatest Silverberg fan of all times. Amazing how I managed to write all that about a day like today. I'm getting way too good at chatting. |
