Cat with glowing eyes

Pic of the day: "Foolish human! Your soul will now be mine!" Yes, this picture is totally random. If I really wanted people to look up this page, I would have an anime screenshot again. Those are by far getting the most "hits", though I doubt people stay to read the journal...

Years ago follow-up

You deserve a break from my whining, so today I will comment on a few of my years ago entries.

One year ago: No entry. This was because one year ago I was beta-testing City of Heroes. From the first day of beta-testing, it has become my favorite game. Oh, I love Sims2 as well, and sometimes I can play Civ3 till my hand hurts; but if there could only be one, there is no doubt which it would be. Being invited to the closed beta-testing was the ultimate apex of my gaming career. The joy and pride can only be compared to that of a new grandparent (or at least that's how they behave). It didn't hurt that the project was so secret, we weren't even allowed to tell that we were beta-testing.

Two years ago: "Guarding in the darkness". This was about the mysterious death of the lamps in my apartment. I actually did something about it, that time, instead of just cursing the darkness. I bought two new lamps. Only one of them is still alive, though. I used the new long life energy-saving light bulbs, and I think the first light bulb actually outlived the lamp. In the future, if any, I intend to tape the proof of purchase to the base of the lamps. That way, I can easily hand them back if they expire before the warranty does. This should save me some money in the long run, because I'm pretty sure some of them don't last even that long.

Three years ago: "Sideways into the future". Contrary to my expectations, not only the world economy but also the US economy has continued to grow in these three years. Or at least in theory. While consumers have continued to spend more and more money, they have also continued to accumulate debt, and so has the government. If you adjust for the debt, and for the interest that has to be paid on that debt, the economy has after all moved sideways. Why do I even have to say that? What is wrong with people, that they think of borrowing money as economic growth? Seriously, people, how is it possible to get this wrong?

I suppose this points back to my four years ago entry: Fools and folly. Perhaps we are all fools, not because we lack intelligence, but because we ignore it when there is something we really want. More about that tomorrow, God willing...
