Pic of the day: I can't understand why some people think feet are exciting. Perhaps because they are far from the head, and this is somehow symbolic, as the head represents self-control and free will? I just made that up, actually. I don't have a clue. (Screenshot from the anime DearS.)

Pinky toe day

In which I spend a whole entry whining about a small toe.

It began yesterday after lunch. Actually I may just have ignored it before, because I don't pay much attention to feet. Ugly, dirty things, living their life in the dust. I need them, but I don't like to think about them. Unless they hurt, which this one did. Or at least the pinky toe - the smallest toe on my left foot. It hurt more and more, a sharp pain like I'd stepped on something sharp. Perhaps I had. I was at work so I had to continue stepping on it, although I tried to do so as little as possible.

After I came home, I tested my new headset first, since it didn't really hurt much unless I stood. But in the evening I took a look. There was a thin red stripe across the base of the toe, on the underside, as if a paper cut that has become moderately infected. Although even I don't actually get paper cuts on my toes, in case you wondered. More surprising and a bit disturbing, the skin between the two outermost toes peeled off easily. Not sure if the two things are connected.

After washing thoroughly, I applied antiseptic salve and covered with a folded piece of clean paper tissue which I taped in place. But of course, feet are feet. No matter what you do, they will get dirty again. You'd almost think they're inherently dirty. Well, that's human nature, I guess.

That was yesterday. Today I was home sick, after waking up queasy at 4:30AM. I don't think the two things were closely related. It may be more likely to come from the exotic sandwich I bought yesterday. But should I first get sick, it was kinda nice to have it on a day when I would rather not put pressure on my foot.
