Pic of the day: Whip-wielding chic in chain mail. Makes no sense? It barely did last year either.

Years ago

I was originally planning to use an entry about those "no war in Iraq" demonstrations held worldwide. (In short, I think it's mostly hypocrisy.) Then I was about to write instead a yellow entry about how strange it is that people like certain temptations even when they don't act on them (or at least aren't supposed to act on them). But then I looked at my years-ago entries and decided to write on how things are now compared to then. What's the point of archives if I don't read them?

One year ago, I wrote about fictional mistresses. I was excited (not that way!) about the upcoming superhero comic by Al Schroeder. Today, MindMistress is a well established online comic, not quite achieving international acclaim but doing well enough in the ratings. His drawing has improved and he is now more "mainstream" in his superhero drawing, although he still has a very unique style. And his storytelling is as good as ever.

I also wrote, somewhat humorously (or that was the intention) about chicks in chain mail and women with whips. The funny thing is that my current DAoC character combines these features: She is a whip-wielding woman in chain mail! The new reaver class are good with flexible weapons, like flails and whips. They will automatically acquire some skill with these weapons even if you don't spend training points in them. Incidentally, this character is named Guu, in honor of the anime about a girl who eats people and animals who then continue to live inside her. Reavers "eat" enemies by absorbing their life energy. A somewhat tenuous link, perhaps, but it seemed to make sense when I started.

Two years ago, I was waiting for the broadband. As regular readers will have noticed, I got DSL last November and haves used it eagerly. It is faster, cheaper, and my phone bill is finally predictable. Well, reasonably predictable; the invoices don't make much sense, but so far I've only got for the transition period.

And I'm using this extra bandwidth to download anime, Japanese cartoons, which was also my February fad two years ago, as I mention in my entry from back then. And soon Child's Toy is coming up as retro anime of the week over at AnimeSuki.com ... the Earth is definitely circling the sun, coming back to the same place again and again. Of course the sun is moving too, so it's not quite the same place. You can step into the river again, but neither you nor the river is the same, as the philosophers say.

Three years ago, I wrote about how the increasing presence of women online would make food more important as content compared to porn. I am not sure whether that has happened yet or not, but I know that I still eat a little chocolate each day ...
