Snowscape

Pic of the day: Snow, I'm kind of sorry to say.

Short update

Have to be short today; right hand is aching. Typing at work, even moderately, will do that. May have to look into ergonomics at work. May have to look into psychology; could be self-sabotage. But I cannot write about work; I have promised not to. I am sure I shall remember, if I look back on this day, why there was much typing right now.

Have finished reading Destiny's Shield by Eric Flint & David Drake. It was good. I am not particularly interested in war; I find war distasteful, even. Occasionally I play strategy games related to warfare, such as M1 Tank Platoon (I & II) from MicroProse. Not for long, though. I am sure people who like war will enjoy these books even more, for they are about war. Personally I enjoyed other aspects of them. The people are slightly larger than life, but still belieavable. The humor is subdued but never far off.

The premise for this series of books is of a Science Fiction nature, but it is used very sparingly. Two entities from the future arrive on Earth in the 6th century AD, and changes history by bringing the knowledge of gunpowder and some other future knowledge. Technology and economy at the time severely limits what these entities can implement of their future knowledge, which is all they bring. One is evil, one is good. The evil one seizes control of the Malwa kingdom in India; the good one seeks out General Belisarius of Rome. The battle begins. Apart from crude gunpowder weapons and the stirrup, very little is different from actual history; but the course of history is changed, making the novels unpredictable.

I have now commenced on the next (and presumably last) novel in the series, Fortune's Stroke. I did not wait long to do so, either. Oh yes, and I bought those in e-book format from Fictionwise.com. E-books rule.

It has snowed these last couple of days. Not much, and rather wet. Still, a change after a green month. I am not much of a snow lover myself. Contrary to what you might believe from a picture such as this. Actually, this demonstration of my "snow white" clothes in 1999 was more an opportunity to show off my backside. That used to be sort of a regular feature for a while, you know.

No butt pic of the month this month, though. You ought to be satisfied with a rare toppless pic of me this time. Anyway, now that I have a reasonably stable audience (as stable as anyone can be reading me, at least) there is probably no need to bribe you with pictures. Actually there never was, though I did joke that if Jenni of Jennicam could have people come back to look at her butt, so could I. Of course, her butt is better looking; but then again, so is her face. In sheer butt-to-face ratio, I think my backside excels. It is a definite improvement over the sorry mug that initially was the daily feature of my diary.

Oh yes, we have come a long way baby. But whichever way you turn, they say, you still have your butt behind you. You sure can't run away from it, or indeed any other less prestigious part of yourself. But at least you can laugh at it.
