Pic of the day: I believe Linda Itland Reeves is referring to "the world's smallest violin" here.

Fast forward 3AM

Because catching up is hard to do!

If you play The Sims 2 at 3AM, make sure your computer is not set to automatically install patches and then restart itself at 3AM without asking you. I thought - nay, knew - that I had set it to just download the patches and leave the installation to me. But evidently some part of the system had altered this without telling me. And so my game, which was running happily away in the deep of the night, was lost as the machine reset itself.

The culprit seems to be Norton, which indicates that there is a "problem" if your machine is not marked as being the boss in your house rather than you. If you allow it to "fix" the "problem" without looking too closely on it, it will quite reasonably consider you a dumbass and let control revert to the corporate masters. I guess it is fair treatment, but now you have been warned.

Or, alternatively, you could quit your game and go to bed before 3AM...
