Opened mangostan fruit

Pic of the day: Mangostan fruit.

Not quite forbidden fruit

This actually happened a few days ago, but I had more interesting things to write about then. In the supermarket, there is a section with exotic fruits. I look at them sometimes, but I don't buy them, since I have no idea whether I would like them or not. This day I randomly decided that I was not going to know unless I tried. So I bought a couple of tropical fruits called "mangostan". Later I managed to open one of them with a sharp knife and some hard work (they have a really hard shell, not as bad as nuts but really tough). What I found inside is what you can see in this picture. I don't know about you, but to me it looked disgusting and anyway more like an egg (or rather several eggs) than fruit.

The fruit is said to taste sweet and aromatic. In truth, it tasted very strange. I won't say that it was bad, just that I personally did not like it. And the fruit was full of fibers which made it hard to swallow even after much chewing. (Actually this happens to me with oranges too, without any other comparison whatsoever.) So in the end, I threw away almost all of it. I guess that's what happens when I randomly try something exotic.

Today I noticed that my right hand thumb was hurting a bit. I decided to not work it too hard, and see if it got better with a night's sleep. I guess the length of this entry gives a clue about the outcome. I am actually dictating this, but my voice is also giving out for some reason.
